Job Description - Identification Technician I (250002L6)
Description
Identification Technician I is an entry-level position. Incumbents of the Identification Technician I position undergo on-the-job training to develop the competencies necessary to classify and identify fingerprints independently as required of Identification Technicians II.
In addition to receiving on-the-job training, incumbents perform clerical and technical job duties that include:
Identification Technician I is a (rotating) emergency position. Consequently, incumbents must periodically report to work under emergency conditions such as during states of emergency declared by the Governor of the Commonwealth or by the federal government.
Identification Technician I undergo a training period of approximately twelve months to develop the knowledge and skills needed to qualify for advancement to Identification Technician II. This training includes a substantial amount of required reading and assignments, as well as hands-on instruction to establish proficiency. During this period, trainees gain experience in analyzing, comparing, and identifying fingerprints, learning the process of the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), and applying departmental procedures and policies related to fingerprint examination.
Identification Technician I are assigned to the Day Shift (7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.), evening shift (3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.) or the midnight shift (11:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.) during the training period. Thereafter, fully trained technicians who have advanced as a qualified verifier and eventual Identification Technician II must participate in a shift bidding process which may result in assignment to the day, evening or midnight (11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.) shift by seniority.
The final candidates for this position will undergo extensive pre-employment screening which includes a background investigation and drug test.
