Job summary

AHC Hospitality, operating Amway Grand Plaza in Grand Rapids, seeks a part-time bartender for weekend shifts to support the bar team and uphold our guest service standards.

You will handle alcohol orders, set up and stock, maintain knowledge of drinks, assist with specials, and keep the bar area clean and safe while engaging guests to deliver quality service.

Qualifications

• MUST have previous bartending experience
• High school diploma or GED are required
• Related experience/training preferred
• ServSafe certification preferred
• TiPS certification preferred

Responsibilities

• Receive entire alcohol order daily
• Set up garnishes, alcohol, and wines
• Transport and set up kegs
• Maintain bar area setup and cleanup
• Demonstrate full alcohol knowledge and drink ingredients
• Know menu items and specials
• Follow Health Department specs
• Aim to exceed guest satisfaction with service
• Resolve guest concerns with urgency
• Minimize waste and control costs while upselling
• Keep work area neat; manage recycling
• Adhere to AHC safety standards
• Attend TIPS training and card guests under 40
• Provide guest service per standards
• Monitor waste and cleanliness
• Communicate with management and team
• Other duties as assigned

This is a part-time position requiring weekend availability. This position is eligible for discounted downtown parking, free employee meals, DailyPay, hotel and restaurant discounts and more.

SUMMARY:

Support the daily operations of the restaurant including guest service, stocking beer wine and alcohol, and side work. Providing a professional environment by engaging all guests of the bar. Follow the expectations of the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, including, following AHC guest service standards. Create a teamwork environment in the restaurant and produce quality service to each guest.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Receive entire alcohol order daily
• Proper set up of all garnishes, alcohol, wines
• Proper set up and transport of keg beer
• Maintain daily set up and/or breakdown of the bar area
• Have full alcohol knowledge and knowledge of drink ingredients
• Know each menu item and its ingredients. Know what happy hour and other specials are.
• Follow and Maintain Health Department Specs.
• Strives to exceed guest satisfaction and looks for ways to provide the best possible service
• Displays a sense of urgency and the ability to resolve guest concerns or department issues on their own
• Utilize time well and is productive throughout the entire shift while meeting department standards
• Looks for ways to save money by reducing waste and controlling expenses. Also tries to generate more revenues by offering ideas and suggestive selling to the guest whenever possible
• Keeps work area neat and clean. Can be found picking up trash in public and back of the house areas of the Hotel. Knows where to recycle items for the department and consistently places them in the appropriate bins and recycling stations
• Follow the AHC safety standards of our hotel
• Associate to attend TIPS training and properly card guests who appear under 40 years of age. Be comfortable to pour wine, beer or make a mixed drink when a bartender is not present.
• Actively taking care of each guest according to AHC guest service standards and department standards
• Monitoring food and alcohol waste
• Maintain restaurant cleanliness and overall deep cleaning of the bar area
• Communicating with your management or team members
• Any other additional responsibilities that may be asked by General Manager or Food and Beverage Manager

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Understands all facets of job responsibilities and displays the skills necessary to complete tasks
• Complete daily cleaning duties and side work tasks, takes pride in their work
• Reports to work on time and rarely misses scheduled shifts. Correctly follow the department attendance policy
• Participates in department meetings and communicates freely expressing ideas, opinions or views. Communicates with management and other staff members
• Displays a positive courteous and polite attitude, works well with others
• Takes pride in their appearance and reports to work in complete uniform, wearing the proper shoes and socks professionally dressed and neatly groomed
• Follow our hotel green policies
• Following AHC and Health Department Specs

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the associate:

• Is regularly required to stand and walk

• Is occasionally required to sit and stoop; kneel, crouch, or crawl
