Job summary

UNM Hospital in Albuquerque, NM seeks a unit educator and master preceptor to lead clinical education within the Medical/Cardiac ICU. You will function as a master preceptor, organizing evidence-based curricula and coordinating training for nursing staff and students.

The role includes developing care plans, serving as a clinical resource, and ensuring adherence to department policies while maintaining clinical skills across age groups, from neonates to geriatrics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 18 months directly related nursing experience required.
• Bilingual English and Spanish, plus knowledge of NM languages preferable.
• CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers within 30 days.
• Instructor in Unit-Required Certifications within 90 Days.
• RN in NM or per reciprocal agreement by NM.

Responsibilities

• LEAD - Provide educational leadership to enhance specialized patient care within clinical protocols.
• INITIATE - Initiate unit-based strategies for developing clinical skills through the master clinician, master preceptor model.
• PERFORM - Serve as a unit educator and clinical instructor for students from the CON on home unit or assist in staffing on unit.
• PLAN - Develop patient plans of care incorporating evidence-based research and national standards.
• CONSULTS - Serve as clinical resource for multidisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care.
• EDUCATE - Educate staff in new equipment, supplies, and instruments; coordinate in-service training/workshops.
• ASSIST - Assist patients and caregivers with educational needs and health management across the continuum of care.
• COLLABORATE - Collaborate with Clinical Educator, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Specialty RN, or Unit Director.
• MONITOR - Monitor trends and implement educational strategies to ensure quality standards.
• PATIENT CARE - Deliver safe direct care to assigned patients and assist with admission, transfer, discharge.
• DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth through participation in educational programs.
