Job summary

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for the night shift (7pm–7am) in the Respiratory Care Department. The team includes about 60 therapists across 9 adult ICUs and offers ECMO training with collaboration to Harvard Medical School.

The role centers on management of mechanical ventilation for critically ill patients, patient assessment, education, and active involvement in quality improvement projects. A $15,000 sign-on bonus is available.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree required in Respiratory Care/Cardiopulmonary Science.
• License required: Respiratory Therapist License, and Registration required: Reg Respiratory Therapist, and Certification 1: Basic Life Support.
• Must be available for off-shift rotations and weekend hours; on-call as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient condition based on medical history, tests and diagnostics.
• Develops or modifies the respiratory care plan and makes recommendations to physicians.
• Serves as a role model for students and health care team members.
• Functions as Team Leader during shifts when management is not onsite.
• Attends internal/external educational meetings to maintain competency and meet license requirements.
• Participates in the department's performance improvement activities.
• Applies findings of clinical research to improve quality of care.
• Develops and implements patient/family education plans.
