City of Shoreview, MN seeks a part-time skating instructor to lead lessons at the Shoreview Arena. Responsibilities include directing associate instructors, supervising sessions, and teaching basic to intermediate skills to all ages. The role emphasizes safety, planning, and adaptability to student needs.
Ideal candidates have skating knowledge, teaching experience, and are at least 18. USFSA registration and CPR/First-Aid are preferred; training is provided.
Shoreview's skating program consists of two different areas. Preschool children who are at least 4 years old can enroll in "pre-skills" classes. This course introduces preliminary moves in a 30-minute class. The purpose of the class is to develop familiarity, coordination and strength.
Basic skills classes are offered for youth. This part of the program includes Readiness Levels 1 & 2.
Classes are held at the Ramsey County Shoreview Arena located across the street from the City Hall/Community Center Complex.

The position requires standing and skating for extended periods while instructing and supervising participants on the ice. Duties involve demonstrating skating techniques, providing hands-on assistance to skaters of all ages and abilities, evaluating participant progress, and ensuring a safe learning environment. Employees may be required to lift, carry, or move instructional equipment and materials weighing up to 30 pounds. The ability to respond quickly to emergencies, maintain awareness of participant safety, and work in cold temperatures for extended periods is essential.
