City of Syracuse is seeking part-time attendants to help operate the municipal ice rink. You will serve as a skate host on the ice, monitor skaters, assist beginners, and enforce facility rules to keep guests safe.

You will also handle admissions and skate rentals at the cashier station, perform light ice maintenance and cleaning, and support youth groups and tournaments. A flexible schedule including weekends and holidays is required.

Job Description

Attendants are responsible for assisting with the operation of a municipal ice rink. Duties may include serving as Skate Hosts on the ice, general ice maintenance, assisting with youth groups/clinics/tournaments; serving as cashier, and general cleaning. Requirements: Must be able to ice skate.

Typical Work Activities

• Serving as a skate host on the ice, monitoring skaters, ensuring rink safety, assisting beginners, and enforcing facility rules.
• Performing general ice maintenance,assisting with tasks such as edging, shoveling, and helping maintain ice conditions between public sessions or events.
• Supporting youth groups, clinics, and tournaments,helping set up equipment, guiding participants, and ensuring organized events run smoothly.
• Operating as a cashier,handling admissions, skate rentals, and transactions using a cash register or point-of-sale system, while providing friendly customer service.
• Handling general cleaning and facility maintenance,keeping public areas, lobby spaces, restrooms, and rental skate rooms clean and tidy for visitors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficiency in ice skating to navigate the ice safely and assist patrons effectively.
• Customer service and interpersonal skills for interacting warmly with visitors and enforcing facility rules.
• Basic cash handling and math skills for accurately operating point of sale systems and managing admissions.
• Physical stamina and adaptability to work in a cold environment and perform light manual labor such as cleaning and moving equipment.
• Reliability and flexibility to maintain a varied part-time schedule spanning weekends evenings and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum age requirement of at least 16 or 18 years old as specified by municipal or Onondaga County seasonal guidelines.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States with working papers if a minor.
• Demonstrated ability to ice skate safely and proficiently to handle on-ice host and monitoring duties.
• Physical capability to work in cold arena environments and perform light manual labor such as cleaning or shoveling.
• Reliability and availability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
