Job summary

Liberty Home Care in North Carolina is seeking an experienced HIM Field Coder to provide accurate ICD coding for long-term care, home health, and hospice services. The role includes pre-authorization coding, coding for new hires or vacancies, and entering codes into the facility EHR within defined timeframes.

Candidates should hold RHIA or RHIT with AHIMA certification, have extensive ICD-10-CM knowledge, 1–3 years in related settings, and must possess a valid NC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school graduate required.
• RHIA/RHIT certification (AHIMA) required.
• Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding required.
• 1–3 years of LTC/home health/hospice coding experience preferred.
• Medicare/Medicaid regulations knowledge preferred.
• Valid NC driver’s license required.
• Professional appearance expected.

Responsibilities

• Provides accurate pre-authorization ICD coding and reports codes within 5–15 minutes (business days).
• Enters codes into facility EHR within 24 business hours after resident admit.
• Completes home health and hospice intake coding in EHR within 24 hours of notification.
• Performs ICD code analysis and reports findings to Senior Director of Coding Reimbursement.
• Serves as ICD coding resource and answers staff questions in a timely manner.
• Collaborates with other departments to improve documentation quality and ICD code processes.
• Assists with staff training on ICD coding.
• Attends educational sessions on ICD coding to stay competent in LTC, home health & hospice coding.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
