Job summary

Williams Companies is seeking an Instrumentation & Electrical Technician to join our field operations in Texas. The role focuses on maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability of gas processing equipment.

You will perform instrumentation calibration, low-voltage electrical work, and support Allen-Bradley PLCs, with safety as top priority. After-hours availability and travel between Williams locations may be required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 6 months in natural gas or related industry.
  • Preferred: 1 year I&E experience with instrumentation troubleshooting, calibration and maintenance.
  • Preferred: 1 year with Allen-Bradley PLC systems and automated control support.

Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance and operational tasks on gas process equipment.
  • Minimizes unplanned shutdowns via root cause analyses and corrective actions focused on safety.
  • Initiates work orders and requisitions; maintains records and documents.
  • Troubleshoots instrumentation, calibration, and low-voltage electrical work with limited supervision.
  • Repairs instrumentation, electrical, and control systems to reduce downtime.
  • Supports programming, diagnostics, and maintenance of Allen-Bradley PLCs and automation.
  • Installs, tests, and commissions instrumentation and electrical equipment per safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities/Expectations
  • Performs maintenance and operational tasks with all natural gas process related equipment and systems
  • Minimizes unplanned shutdowns through participating in root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions with a focus on improving safety
  • Initiates and completes work orders and requisitions and maintains all records and documents as needed
  • Performs instrumentation troubleshooting, calibration, maintenance, and low-voltage electrical work with limited supervision
  • Troubleshoots and repairs instrumentation, electrical, and control system equipment to minimize downtime and maintain operational reliability
  • Supports the programming, diagnostics, and maintenance of Allen-Bradley PLCs and automated control systems
  • Installs, tests, and commissions instrumentation and electrical equipment while ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards
  • Other duties as assigned
Education/Years of Experience
  • Required: High School Diploma/GED, a minimum of six (6) months’ experience in the natural gas or related industry
  • Preferred: Associates or 2-year technical degree
  • Preferred: One (1) years of Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) experience, including instrumentation troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance, with experience performing low-voltage electrical work in an industrial environment
  • Preferred: One (1) year with Allen-Bradley PLC systems, including programming, troubleshooting, and diagnostics, with the ability to support and maintain automated control systems
Physical and Environment Work Requirements
  • Work in extreme temperatures, with loud noises and in enclosed spaces
  • Carry or lift items up to 50 lbs and team lift loads of more than 50 lbs as needed
  • Stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and squat, often for long periods of time
  • Work at elevated levels, potentially from man lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and/or small towers, with appropriate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)
  • Use hand tools
Shift/Work Hours/Travel Requirements
  • Available to work after hours, on-call rotations, nights, weekend shifts and holiday as the need arises
  • May be required to work overtime and travel between Williams locations with occasional overnight stays
Other Requirements
  • Must possess valid State Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Demonstrates aptitude and ability to embrace technology and applications to drive operational efficiency and streamline processes
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority
  • Needs basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Application and PC skills
  • Previous experience working in an environment with gas-plant operations, gas compression and/or liquid or gas gathering processes
  • Previous experience in the mechanical, electrical, and/or maintenance industry
