Job summary

Canopy A&D seeks an experienced design engineer to own TPS components end-to-end, from requirements through hardware delivery in an environment accelerating advanced materials for space and defense. You will translate heat flux and aero loads into robust mechanical designs, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to new products and proposals.

Applicants should have 2+ years with TPS design experience, CAD and GD&T proficiency, and possibly an active clearance.

Qualifications

• More than 2 years designing and owning TPS components or assemblies qualified via high-enthalpy testing or flight.
• Familiarity with hypersonic systems, ablation mechanics, and TPS solutions.
• Hands-on design engineer experience taking hardware from concept to manufacturing (CAD, drawing release, GD&T).
• Strong fundamentals in structures, materials science, thermodynamics, and manufacturing.
• Ability to meet tight schedules with creative solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for interdisciplinary work.
• Active U.S. Security Clearance (Secret or higher) or eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end TPS component design and deliverables from requirements to hardware delivery.
• Drive material trade studies balancing thermal survivability, structures, and manufacturing realities.
• Collaborate with aerothermal, design, materials, and test groups to translate heat flux into robust designs.
• Develop CAD drawings and ICDs and interface with manufacturing to ensure spec-compliant parts.
• Support testing campaigns and iteratively reduce data to improve designs.
