Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan in Morenci, AZ is seeking team members to support leaching operations and field construction at a major open-pit copper mining complex. You will operate equipment, assist with pipe work, and help manage leach areas under supervision.

On-site housing options are available; 3 months’ mining/industrial experience is preferred. Candidates must pass safety training and assessments during the hiring process.

Qualifications

• Three months experience in mining/industrial operations or similar.
• Must demonstrate safety awareness and pass required assessments.
• Line of Progression requirements may apply for internal employees.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties related to leaching process and leach field construction.
• Assist with and perform pipe fusions using fusing equipment.
• Maintain knowledge of plant nomenclature: sumps, pumps, leaching areas.
• Assist with evaporative spray heads and drip systems placement on leach fields.
• Assist with clay treatment and possible filter press use.
• Load, deliver and unload pipe and materials as needed.
• Operate mobile equipment (skid-steer, forklifts, boom trucks).
• Assist with maintenance activities and area housekeeping.
• Perform other duties as required.

Where You Will Work

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

What You Will Do

• Performs duties related to the leaching process and leach field construction.
• May assist with and perform pipe fusions using fusing machine
• Responsible for having knowledge of plant nomenclature to include sumps, pumps, and leaching areas
• Responsible for having knowledge of various evaporative spray heads and drip systems and may assist with and perform the proper placement of these on leach fields
• May assist with and perform clay treatment which may include using a filter press
• May assist with and perform loading, delivering, and unloading pipe and materials
• May operate mobile equipment such as skid-steer loaders, forklifts, boom trucks, and light duty vehicles
• May assist with maintenance activities
• Perform area housekeeping
• Perform other duties as required

What You Bring To Freeport

• Three (3) months experience in one of the following areas:
  • Mining/Manufacturing
  • Industrial Operations
  • Commercial Construction
  • Commercial Landscaping
  • Commercial Agriculture
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.

Preferred Qualifications

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently$21.00 - $27.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
