Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking a on-site role in New Mexico to support leaching operations and field maintenance. The position involves performing leach-related duties, operating loaders and forklifts, and handling pipe materials in a 24/7 facility environment.

Minimum 6 months experience in the trade is required; a high school diploma or GED is preferred. The role may require medical exams, training, and non-standard schedules to support a 365-day operation.

Responsibilities

• Perform leaching-related duties and leach field construction.
• Perform pipe fusions using a fusing machine.
• Understand plant nomenclature including sumps, pumps, and leaching areas.
• Work with evaporative spray heads and drip systems on leach fields.
• Load, deliver, and unload pipe and materials.
• Operate mobile equipment (loaders, forklifts, boom trucks, UTV).
• Conduct area housekeeping and maintenance activities.
• Perform other duties as required.

Where You Will Work

Chino is an open-pit copper mining complex located 15 miles from the historic mining community of Silver City in southwestern New Mexico. The historic Chino mine was among the world's first low-grade, open-pit copper mines. Today, the operation consists of a 36,000-metric-ton-per-day concentrator that produces copper and a 150-million-pound-per-year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode from solution generated by run-of-mine leaching.

What You Will Do

• Performs duties related to the leaching process and leach field construction.
• Performs pipe fusions using fusing machine
• Responsible for having knowledge of plant nomenclature to include sumps, pumps, and leaching areas
• Responsible for having knowledge of various evaporative spray heads and drip systems and may assist with and perform the proper placement of these on leach fields
• Perform loading, delivering, and unloading pipe and materials
• Operate mobile equipment such as loaders, forklifts, boom trucks, and light duty vehicles and UTV (Utility terrain vehicle)
• Perform area housekeeping
• Perform maintenance activities
• Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

• Six (6) months of experience in the trade
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $23.00 - $31.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors.
