Location: 5707 Hwy 15, Vidalia, LA 71373, USA

The Hydro Survey/Sediment Lab Technician shall perform tasks required per memorandum of agreement with the USCOE, tasks associated with the dam safety program, and maintain potable water and sewage treatment per applicable state requirements. It will involve managing various contracts/contractors and performing settlement surveys. This work location is located approximately 40 miles south of Vidalia, LA.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for obtaining, analyzing, and documenting samples. Compare previous data to recent data and make conclusions and/or analysis. Maintain records and files for historical reference.
• Complete Job Safety Plans to identify required tasks, associated hazards (safety and environmental) of each task and appropriate barriers for prevention.
• Monitor sediment transport, consisting of obtaining and processing samples and documenting results in a report format for the annual report to USCOE.
• Operate water craft.
• Obtain piezometer measurements and document results in a data log and prepare biannual report to USCOE.
• Perform settlement surveys of fixed monuments.
• Perform Hydrographic surveys of channels.
• Monitor potable water and wastewater treatment plants to ensure compliance with state regulations and requirements.
• Perform periodic Dam safety inspections of facility and channels.
• Coordinate diving operations for inspections and repairs.
• Coordinate repairs of channel embankments by contractor, as needed.
• Process oil samples (lube, governor, and hydraulic) and complete runtime reports.

• Perform other duties and fulfill all other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Operations Manager.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to periodically travel to required educational courses to maintain state license(s), as needed.
• Ability to work in varying environmental conditions which may include exposure to moving/mechanical parts, extreme or inclement outdoor climates, enclosed areas, or noise levels and atmosphere consistent with industrial environments and will also include an office environment (indoors, controlled temperature, office building).
• Physical demands: Must be able to perform fieldwork related to the tasks, including negotiating work and construction areas, climbing stairs, using normal vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, use of hands, fingers, ability to feel objects, tools, or controls, ability to sit, stand, reach, balance, climb, crouch or crawl, ability to communicate (written and spoken word), ability to see within normal parameters, ability to hear within normal range, ability to move about.
• Employee may occasionally be required to lift objects.
• Operate equipment such as Well Wizard, Boats, Trucks, Telephone, Survey equipment, calculator, cell-phone, computer, printer, copier, tools and equipment related to hydro station operation and maintenance, related safety equipment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of material, methods, and techniques commonly used in diving operation activities as related to assigned areas of specialization.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of four (4) years of related experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain state certification for potable and/or wastewater.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, as required, for operation of motor craft in navigable waters.
• Knowledge of common computer software programs.
• Ability to maintain files and record keeping.
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks.
• This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver’s licence. A motor vehicle report (MVR) that shows driving history, including information about your driver’s license, will be required if you are selected as the successful candidate.
