Job summary

City & Borough of Sitka Alaska seeks a Power Plant Operator to monitor and control hydroelectric and diesel generation, transmission, substations, and distribution systems. You will ensure efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness, with SCADA-assisted operations and 24/7 readiness.

Under supervision, you’ll oversee system restoration after outages, perform mechanical adjustments, and prepare logs and reports for operational continuity. A strong knowledge of hydro-diesel generation is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years of electric utility operations experience.
• Experience with SCADA preferred.
• Any equivalent combination of experience, education and training.

Responsibilities

• Monitors, operates, and dispatches electric generation, transmission, substation, and distribution systems to ensure adequate power delivery and safe operations.
• Maintains surveillance of all instruments and adjusts load to prevent overloading and ensure reliability.
• Operates the electrical system manually or via SCADA for monitoring and control.
• Dispatches switching procedures to ensure safe coordination of the system.
