Job summary

STV Incorporated on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh is seeking a Hydraulics Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. The role supports senior and junior engineers on transportation and infrastructure projects with emphasis on hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater management.

The internship offers hybrid work with in-office presence. Candidates must be pursuing a Civil/Environmental/related engineering degree and show interest in hydraulics, hydrology, and water resources engineering.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related discipline at an ABET-accredited university or NCEES equivalent.
• Coursework or demonstrated interest in hydraulics, hydrology, stormwater management, or water resources engineering.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for transportation and infrastructure projects under supervision of senior staff.
• Support development of stormwater management reports, drainage studies, and technical memoranda.
• Assist with storm drain, culvert, and erosion and sediment control design tasks.
• Utilize modeling software such as HEC-RAS, StormCAD, or similar tools for assigned tasks.
• Prepare drawings using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or AutoCAD.
• Format reports, calculations, and specifications to support project documentation.
• Support project file management, including organization of electronic documents, printing and scanning.
• Gain exposure to permitting processes, including NPDES and local/state stormwater requirements.
