Job summary

STV is seeking a Hydraulics Engineering Intern in a hybrid role requiring three days per week in the office. The position targets undergraduate and graduate students eager to work with water resources and transportation professionals on infrastructure projects focused on hydraulics, stormwater, and drainage.

Responsibilities include assisting with analyses, reports, drawings, and permit-related tasks, using HEC-RAS, StormCAD, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and AutoCAD.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related discipline at an ABET‑accredited university or NCEES equivalent.
• Coursework or demonstrated interest in hydraulics, hydrology, stormwater management, or water resources engineering.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for transportation and infrastructure projects under supervision of senior staff.
• Support the development of stormwater management reports, drainage studies, and technical memoranda.
• Assist with storm drain, culvert, and erosion and sediment control design tasks.
• Utilize hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (HEC‑RAS, StormCAD, or similar) as appropriate.
• Prepare drawings using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or AutoCAD.
• Format reports, calculations, and specifications for project documentation.
• Support project file management, including organization of documents, printing, and scanning.
• Gain exposure to permitting processes, including NPDES and local/state stormwater requirements.
• Use company and department software to complete tasks.
• Gain broad exposure to STV’s organizational structure through diverse assignments.

Job description

STV is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Hydraulics Engineering Intern to join our team. This internship offers an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate-level candidates to work alongside experienced water resources and transportation professionals, gain hands‑on experience, and contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects. This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office. Preference will be given to candidates who can participate for at least three months and work full-time.

In this role, you will support senior and junior engineers on a variety of transportation and infrastructure projects with a focus on hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater management. Projects may include roadway drainage systems, culverts, stormwater management facilities, erosion and sediment control, and green infrastructure solutions. Candidates should have a strong interest in hydraulics, water resources, and transportation infrastructure design.

Required

Compensation Range

$45,675.00 - $51,903.00
