Job summary

Ellicott Dredges, LLC in Baltimore, MD, is seeking a hands-on Hydraulic Systems Technician to install, test, and troubleshoot hydraulic systems on dredges and related equipment. You will interpret schematics and work closely with the Engineering team and Lead Technician.

Responsibilities

• Install complete hydraulic systems on dredges, booster pumps, and related equipment, including piping, tubing, and hose assemblies.
• Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, blueprints, and assembly drawings.
• Measure, build, and assemble hydraulic hoses using crimping equipment to quality specifications
• Install hydraulic components including pumps, motors, valves, manifolds, cylinders, filters, etc.
• Route and secure hydraulic lines to ensure proper fit, function, and serviceability.
• Fill, flush, pressure test, and commission of hydraulic systems.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic system performance issues during installation and testing.
• Coordinate with Engineering and the Lead Hydraulic Systems Technician, and other members of the Assembly team to resolve installation questions or design clarifications.
• Verify part numbers and components prior to installation.
• Maintain hydraulic tools, crimpers, and testing equipment.
• Document installation changes or field adjustments as required.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area following 5S and company safety standards.
• Support other shop operations as needed during peak workload periods.

Position Overview

The Hydraulic Systems Technician is responsible for installing, plumbing, testing, and troubleshooting hydraulic systems on dredges, booster pumps, and related equipment. This role works from hydraulic schematics, blueprints, and engineering instructions to complete full system installations while coordinating closely with Engineering and the Lead Hydraulics Systems Technician. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on technician with strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and experience working with hydraulic components and systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Install complete hydraulic systems on dredges, booster pumps, and related equipment, including piping, tubing, and hose assemblies.
• Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, blueprints, and assembly drawings.

• Ten (10) years or more related experience and/or training required.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and applicable state and federal safety laws.

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, technical documents, and maintenance instructions.
• Proficiency in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals).
• Strong reasoning skills and the ability to prioritize maintenance and workflow issues effectively.
• Basic computer literacy: familiarity with manufacturing software systems preferred.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, speak, and hear. Regular activities include walking; reaching with hands and arms; climbing or balancing; and stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Work may occasionally occur in confined spaces and at heights up to 20 ft. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10lb. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lb. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be exposed to:
