Electrical Engineer I

About DSC

DSC Dredge is a world leader in portable cutter suction dredges — engineering and manufacturing equipment for aggregate mining and sand & gravel production, environmental remediation, coastal restoration, navigational maintenance, and marine construction across the U.S. and in more than 50 countries worldwide. We operate from our headquarters in Reserve, Louisiana and our manufacturing facility in Poplarville, Mississippi.

The Role

DSC Dredge is seeking an Electrical Engineer I to support the electrical and automation engineering scope for custom dredge projects, working under the direction of senior engineers across design, specification, and commissioning. This entry-level role builds foundational experience in industrial power distribution, motor control, instrumentation, electrical schematics, and equipment specification, with growing exposure to PLC, HMI, VFD, and industrial networking integration. You will work closely with Engineering, Production, and Sales while building toward independent ownership of engineering scope. This is a world-class dredge manufacturing business with immediate full-time openings, offering a competitive salary based on experience and an unmatched benefits package, including health insurance, 401(k) with match, and much more.

What You Will Do

  • Support the electrical and automation engineering scope for assigned projects, under the direction of senior engineers.
  • Help design industrial power distribution, motor control, and instrumentation systems at the component level, under review.
  • Develop electrical schematics and panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical, under review.
  • Support troubleshooting of VFD and motor control systems (debugging and modifications).
  • Help coordinate the integration of PLC, HMI, and industrial networking systems with the Automation Engineering team.
  • Contribute to specifying electrical equipment, instrumentation, drives, motors, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, and related components.
  • Support coordination of engineering activities with mechanical engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, and product support.
  • Attend and observe customer design reviews and technical meetings.
  • Help review customer specifications, vendor documentation, and engineering submittals.
  • Support factory testing, commissioning, and startup in the yard, with occasional site travel to shadow a Senior Engineer.

What You Will Bring

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering
  • 0–2 years of experience in industrial electrical engineering (internship or academic project experience considered)
  • Coursework or internship-level exposure to motor control, instrumentation, PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networking
  • Basic ability to read electrical schematics
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable industrial electrical standards sufficient to assist and apply under review
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Willingness to travel approximately 5% for field support, primarily to shadow a Senior Engineer at customer sites

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment
  • AutoCAD Electrical proficiency

Why DSC

  • Hands-on learning from day one — no two builds are the same, giving you broad, real-world exposure across power distribution, controls, and project execution
  • Visible impact early in your career — the systems you help design are fabricated, tested, and commissioned on job sites across the U.S. and across the world
  • A clear growth path — direct mentorship from senior engineers, with a defined track toward independently owning engineering scope
  • Career stability — a business at record production levels with a steady pipeline of project work to build your experience on
  • Institutional knowledge at your fingertips — a company small enough that your questions get answered and your growth is genuinely invested in

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: commensurate with experience
  • Health, dental, vision insurance & short-term disability
  • Company-paid basic life insurance & long-term disability
  • 401k retirement plan with company match
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • PE licensure support including examination fees, study resources, and continuing education

This role is primarily office-based, with regular time on the manufacturing floor and in testing environments.
