Job summary

Ellicott Dredges is seeking Dredge Assembly Technicians to support the building of dredges, booster pumps, and related equipment in our Baltimore facility. This role accommodates a range of skill levels from developing assemblers to experienced technicians with strong mechanical and hydraulic expertise.

Depending on experience, you may perform basic assembly work or take on more advanced responsibilities including hydraulic system installation, testing, and troubleshooting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Entry to mid-level candidates with 1–3+ years of mechanical or industrial experience.
  • Experienced candidates with 5–10+ years in heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, or industrial assembly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical assembly including structural, drivetrain, and support systems.
  • Installation of hydraulic components such as pumps, motors, valves, hoses, and tubing.
  • Read and interpret assembly drawings, blueprints, and hydraulic schematics.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment to complete assembly tasks accurately.
  • Fit, align, and secure components to meet quality and functional requirements.
  • Route and secure hydraulic lines to ensure proper fit, function, and serviceability.
  • Build and assemble hydraulic hoses using appropriate equipment.
  • Fill, flush, pressure test, and assist with commissioning hydraulic systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and/or hydraulic issues during installation and testing.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Leads, and other team members to resolve installation questions.
  • Verify parts and materials prior to installation.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in accordance with 5S and safety standards.
  • Support other shop operations and trades as needed during peak workload periods.

Position Overview

Ellicott Dredges is seeking Dredge Assembly Technicians to support the building of dredges, booster pumps, and related equipment in our Baltimore facility. This role is designed to support candidates across a range of skill levels, from developing assemblers to experienced technicians with strong mechanical and hydraulic expertise.

Depending on experience and capability, individuals in this role may perform basic assembly work or take on more advanced responsibilities including hydraulic system installation, testing, and troubleshooting. This position works closely with Leads, Engineers, and other skilled trades to complete high-quality equipment builds.

We are actively looking to hire multiple individuals and will align responsibilities and compensation based on experience and demonstrated skill level.

Key Responsibilities

Education & Experience

  • Ability to read a tape measure and interpret basic blueprints and assembly drawings.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under direction.
  • Willingness to support multiple areas and learn new skills across the assembly process.
  • Basic computer literacy: familiarity with manufacturing systems preferred.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, speak, and hear. Regular activities include walking; reaching with hands and arms; climbing or balancing; and stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Work may occasionally occur in confined spaces and at heights up to 20 ft. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lb and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lb. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
