Hydraulic Engineering Assistant I, II or III - Design Division - Austin, TX

Join the Texas Department of Transportation as a Hydraulic Engineering Assistant I, II or III in the Design Division in Austin, TX. This role involves reviewing H&H designs, collaborating across divisions and districts, managing technical consultants, developing training programs, maintaining the Hydraulic Design Manual, and participating in innovative projects like the transition to 3D design and digital delivery. Engineering Assistants are supported in working toward licensure and participate in job rotation.

Essential Duties:

• Prepare for professional engineering licensing through training and exams.
• Apply engineering principles to transportation projects.
• Conduct planning, design, data collection, and analysis activities.
• Review engineering work for accuracy and compliance.
• Utilize design programs and CAD systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

Engineering Assistant I: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science; experience can be full-time or part-time. Substitutions include master's or doctoral degrees accredited by EAC/ABET. Must have a valid driver’s license and Safety Impact Certificate.

Engineering Assistant II: Same education requirements; 1 year of engineering experience; additional certifications required.

Engineering Assistant III: Same education; 2 years of experience; may require passing the PE exam.
