General Motors is seeking a Zone Manufacturing Engineer to lead technical ownership from concept through launch and into steady-state production. The role emphasizes advanced manufacturing, lean practices, and GMS-based improvement across a General Assembly zone.

You will mentor engineers, drive complex launches, and optimize safety, quality, and cost through data-driven problem solving in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of manufacturing/process engineering experience.
• Experience leading complex projects from concept through launch.
• Knowledge of GMS and DFM principles.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 75%.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical ownership and leadership for new programs within an assigned General Assembly zone.
• Lead complex launch and manufacturing projects from concept to production.
• Define tooling, equipment, automation, conveyance, and material handling requirements.
• Establish project milestones, risks, and recovery plans for launches.
• Lead build events and capture lessons learned for future programs.
• Provide direction to junior engineers and production partners.
• Apply GMS to identify waste, standardize work, and improve performance.
• Lead Value Stream Mapping to improve material flow and lead times.
• Monitor KPIs, analyze trends, and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align tooling and processes.
• Develop PFMEAs and ensure safety and quality improvements.
• Maintain technical documentation and governance artifacts.
