Job summary

SFM Mutual Insurance Company is seeking an Internal Premium Auditor to perform workers’ compensation premium audits and reconcile payroll data to ensure accurate policy pricing. Most audits are conducted virtually, with hybrid on-site requirements; training will be provided to classify jobs and subcontractor exposure properly.

The role emphasizes customer service, analytical thinking, and strict adherence to audit rules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in accounting/finance or similar field preferred; or two years’ experience reviewing premium audits or handling financial data.
• Workers’ compensation auditing experience desired.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Strong math, accounting knowledge and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of MWCIA, NCCI, WCRB and state rules is a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• High integrity and strong judgment; able to work with minimal supervision.
• Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word).
• Ability to work in Corporate Headquarters when needed.

Responsibilities

• Performs premium audits electronically, on accounts with premiums typically under $10,000, and reconciles payroll with estimates.
• Evaluates payroll records and job classifications to determine correct premium and exposure.
• Reviews contracts to assess independent contractor relationships and applies workers’ compensation rules.
• Summarizes exposure information per policy requirements and communicates audit results to policyholders and team members.
• Enters audit results to determine the current premium base and maintains audit records.
• Engages in ongoing learning to stay current with audit rules and company practices.
• Delivers high-quality customer service to agents and policyholders via phone or email.
