Job summary

Parametrix in Washington is seeking an experienced Industrial Wastewater Engineer to support the EP&C team. You will contribute to planning, permitting, design, and improvement of wastewater systems with emphasis on regulatory compliance and discharge permits.

You will mentor junior staff, collaborate with regulators and clients, and help navigate federal, state, and local requirements. The role offers hybrid/remote options based on project needs and experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, civil, environmental, mechanical, or related engineering; master's preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience supporting the design and permitting of wastewater projects.
  • PE license in WA or OR, or ability to obtain licensure within one year of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of wastewater permitting and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with NPDES permits and state-specific wastewater discharge permits, including WPCF permits.
  • Experience supporting wastewater and recycled water permitting in WA, OR, ID, or other Western states.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into clear, practical guidance for clients and project teams.
  • Experience with routine wastewater pumping and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with industrial wastewater facilities, operations, design standards, and construction practices.
  • Experience preparing clear, well-organized permit applications, regulatory reports, and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with relevant engineering software and technical tools.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
  • Balance multiple assignments within project budgets and schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret regulatory requirements and develop policies, plans, and procedures for compliance.
  • Track, review, and assess federal, state, and local regulations related to stormwater and discharges.
  • Prepare compliance documents, technical reports, and other materials related to NPDES and state permits.
  • Prepare permit applications, renewals, modifications, and regulatory agency reports.
  • Develop water balances, process flow diagrams, and equipment recommendations.
  • Support planning, design, rehabilitation, and improvement of wastewater systems.
  • Collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, engineers, and technical staff.
  • Mentor developing engineers and staff in wastewater permitting and compliance.
  • Manage assigned work within budgets, schedules, and resource plans.
