Job summary

SMBC Group seeks an experienced Vice President-level Application Development Lead to establish and lead a U.S.-based development capability for a derivatives trade booking platform. The role emphasizes API design and integration components, working with Tokyo teams and U.S. stakeholders.

The candidate must demonstrate strong Java/Spring Boot development, hands-on leadership, and bilingual communication in Japanese and English.

Qualifications

Strong hands-on Java development experience.
Strong experience with Spring Boot and enterprise application development.
Experience designing and developing REST APIs and integration services with Java 21.
Professional working proficiency in English and Japanese for technical discussions.

Responsibilities

Lead the U.S. development capability for the derivatives booking platform, focusing on API work.
Lead design, development, testing, and implementation of Java-based APIs and integrations.
Provide hands-on technical leadership: design and code reviews; align with Japan team.
Act as a bridge between U.S. and Japan stakeholders; conduct discussions in Japanese and English.
Design APIs for integration with Global Markets apps and data platforms.
Establish modern engineering practices: automated tests, CI/CD, code quality.
Coordinate technical dependencies across apps; assist root-cause analysis.
Help establish sustainable U.S.-based dev capability for future enhancements.
