SMBC is seeking a VP-level Application Development Lead in Jersey City to build and lead a U.S.-based derivatives trade booking API capability. You will drive design, develop, and deploy Java/Spring Boot services, collaborating with teams in Tokyo and the U.S.

to deliver scalable, maintainable solutions. You will bridge language and cultural gaps, ensuring architectural consistency, testing rigor, and CI/CD adoption across distributed teams.

Formación

• Proven experience with Spring Boot-based enterprise apps.
• Design and develop RESTful APIs and integration services.
• Strong Java 21 knowledge and modern build tools (Gradle).
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, and code quality practices.
• Leadership experience guiding developers and technical direction.
• Professional proficiency in Japanese and English for technical discussions.

Responsabilidades

• Lead the U.S.-based development capability for the derivatives trade booking platform, focusing on API development.
• Design, develop, test, and implement Java-based APIs and integration components.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership and conduct code reviews; align with Japan-based teams.
• Serve as a technical bridge between U.S. and Japan stakeholders in both languages.
• Develop APIs enabling integration with Global Markets applications and data platforms.
• Establish modern engineering practices including automated testing, CI/CD, and maintainability.
• Coordinate dependencies and support root-cause analysis of complex issues.
• Help build a sustainable U.S.-based development capability for future work.
