Job summary

Davey Resource Group, Inc. seeks a Hybrid Utility Designer 2 to plan, design, verify locations, and inspect utility assets. This junior role combines remote design work with about 20% field work in Central and Southern Ohio, with a company vehicle or travel reimbursement provided.

You will learn and apply engineering skills under supervision, using routine procedures to address common challenges while collaborating with project stakeholders for safe, cost-effective designs.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years prior electric utility experience, preferably in low voltage distribution.
• High-school diploma with electric utility or telecommunications experience OR a Bachelor's degree in engineering with no prior industry experience.
• Obtain and maintain professional certificates and licenses as required.
• Ability to read, understand and apply engineering construction standards.
• Proficiency in CAD/Outside Plant design software, PLA software, MS Office applications, Google Workspace, and data entry.
• Strong communication skills including written and verbal.
• Perform basic arithmetic computations.
• State-issued driver's license and a personal vehicle for on-site travel.
• Residence in Southwest or Central Ohio (Cinncinatti, Dayton, Columbus). Must live within a 45-minute drive of Dayton, OH.

Responsibilities

• Organize assigned proposals using client software
• Communicate with homeowners/customers in the AES footprint to schedule on-site meetings and determine the scope of work
• Maintain records of utility infrastructure.
• Identify and mitigate safety risks.
• Design aerial and underground utilities, ensuring compliance with AES engineering standards
• Optimize designs for cost-effectiveness and safety.
• Design engineering prints and cost estimates using clientprovided software
• Collaborate with project stakeholders for optimal design solutions.
• Maintain vehicle and equipment, ensuring operational readiness.
• Respond to emergencies safely and promptly.
• Report to supervisors accurately and promptly.
• Participate in training events at the AES building in Dayton, OH.
• Travel occasionally for on-site duties (1-3 days a week depending on workload).
• Perform other assigned duties and adhere to company policies.
