Job summary

VHB’s Richmond and Virginia Beach, VA offices are seeking a Transportation Roadway Engineer to join our growing Transportation team. In this role, you’ll help shape resilient, connected communities through the delivery of roadway and multimodal transportation solutions across Virginia, working with a collaborative, multidisciplinary team on projects that improve mobility and safety.

Required are a BS in Civil Engineering, 5+ years of professional transportation experience, and a PE license or

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering required; MS a plus.
• 5+ years of professional transportation engineering experience.
• PE license expected or ability to obtain in 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering duties as a Project Engineer, including analysis and design for complex transportation projects.
• Contribute to the design and production of transportation projects such as highway widenings/reconstructions, intersection improvements, roundabouts, and shared‑use/bike‑pedestrian facilities.
• Help develop and deliver client‑facing documents, including construction plans, while maintaining adherence to project budgets and schedules.
• Apply VHB standards and industry best practices to ensure quality control of work products.
• Support marketing efforts through technical input for proposals and presentation materials.
• Coordinate multi‑disciplinary design teams, including collaboration with subconsultants.
• Partner with technical specialists to resolve design challenges and coordination issues.
• Provide support during the bidding phase, including preparation of addenda and bid reviews.
• Participate in construction phase services, including site visits and record drawings.
• Mentor and support the professional growth of entry‑level Transportation staff.
