Job summary

American Municipal Power, Inc. is seeking a Transmission Engineer-Station in Columbus, OH.

The role supports AMPT asset planning, design, and construction across distribution and transmission voltage levels, with hybrid or remote work options within AMP's footprint. The engineer will develop project scopes, support budgets, and collaborate with multiple teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

Four-year accredited engineering degree required; civil or electrical engineering preferred.
1–3 years of experience in electric transmission or distribution engineering preferred.
Professional Engineer license preferred.
Preferred knowledge of transmission protection/control engineering and/or transmission line engineering.
Preferred knowledge of FERC Uniform System of Accounts (Part 35 of 18.1 CFR).
Preferred knowledge of NERC processes and compliance obligations.
Preferred knowledge of project management and transmission planning software.
Must be deadline/critical path oriented and capable of prioritizing.
Experience with CAD/GIS/Aspen and related software for engineering outputs.
Strong verbal, written, and computer skills; building business relationships.

Responsibilities

Participate in capital project engineering activities including RFPs and vendor management.
Review and approve detailed engineering bid packages for release.
Develop and maintain AMPT engineering standards with operations and planning teams.
Assist in developing ratings and guidelines for electrical equipment.
Assist in budgeting and contract record maintenance.
Develop and maintain drawing management files and engineering databases.
Coordinate with AMPT functions, Members, and stakeholders.
Perform other duties as assigned.
