Job summary

American Municipal Power, Inc is seeking an Assistant General Counsel – Transmission in Columbus, OH. The role supports the AMPT team in asset acquisitions, interconnection and O&M agreements, and regulatory proceedings, including FERC and state processes.

The candidate must be admitted to practice in Ohio with at least five years in transmission rate setting, and be able to work in a hybrid environment with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Admitted to the practice of law in Ohio (admission in other states helpful but not required).
• Minimum of five years of relevant experience in transmission rate setting.
• Knowledge of transmission cost allocation, and generation interconnection philosophies, rules and processes.
• Ability to forge strong working relationships and work well in a team environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Must be willing to travel.

Responsibilities

• Structure, draft, negotiate and facilitate purchases of transmission assets and related agreements.
• Provide legal support for budget, PTRR/ATRR, and rate filings.
• Coordinate with outside counsel on state regulatory requirements within budget/timing.
• Provide in-person legal support at city council meetings and open houses.
• Support compliance and regulatory matters including market abuse considerations.
• Manage multiple projects with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
• Advise AMP staff across departments on legal issues and risk mitigation.
• Assist in preparing reports for open records requests while maintaining confidentiality.
• Demonstrate alignment with AMP’s mission and customer focus.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
