NPR in Washington, DC is seeking a Systems Engineer for its Distribution IT Infrastructure team. You will manage enterprise virtualization, servers, storage, and networking across NPR's core infrastructure.

You will deploy and operate VMware ESXi, Proxmox, and related platforms, participate in change management, and contribute to capacity planning to ensure reliable, secure operations 24x7. This is a hybrid role with on-site work in DC.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in servers and networking in a data center environment.
• 2+ years in planning, design, deployment, and management of enterprise virtualized cloud infrastructure (e.g., VMware ESXi, Hyper‑V, or open‑source hypervisors).
• Hands-on experience with physical data center hardware, including racking and cabling servers, configuring out‑of‑band access.

Responsabilités

• Build and maintain physical infrastructure for servers, storage, and network hardware.
• Deploy, configure, and maintain virtualized systems using enterprise tools.
• Evaluate virtual system architecture and create metrics for performance in test environments.
• Implement change management processes for system updates and improvements.
• Support capacity planning and cloud/virtualization workflows for ROI and business value.
• Work with Security to ensure compliant configurations and policies.
• Document workflows and create training materials for internal users.
• Respond to incidents and participate in an on‑call rotation (24x7 as needed).
