Job summary

BRMi is seeking a VMware/Windows Systems Engineer to support NIH CIT Hosting and Storage Services. The role covers operating VMware vSphere, Cisco UCS, HyperFlex, and NetApp storage within a hybrid Bethesda, MD environment.

You will ensure HA/DRS, security and compliance, and collaborate with NIH teams on enterprise hosting. Requires 5+ years VMware experience and ability to obtain NIH public trust.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in a relevant field with 5+ years experience in enterprise VMware operations.
• Hands on experience with Cisco UCS B series, SAN boot, NetApp ONTAP (NFS/iSCSI); strong storage & compute integration skills.
• Experience with vROps/Aria Operations, Log Insight, Splunk, Tenable, and controlled GPO deployments.
• Proficiency with ServiceNow, xMatters, and ScienceLogic monitoring.
• PowerShell/PowerCLI automation; strong documentation/runbook skills.
• Strong Windows Server Administration experience.
• Ability to obtain NIH public trust
• Knowledge of ITIL service management practices.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate and optimize VMware vSphere clusters and vCenter; manage HA/DRS, capacity, and lifecycle.
• Manage Cisco UCS B series blades, firmware, SAN boot (iSCSI), and NetApp ONTAP storage in a FlexPod pattern.
• Maintain the Cisco HyperFlex DMZ platform; patching and migration planning.
• Drive security and compliance: apply VMware advisories quickly; manage vROps/Aria Operations and Log Insight; forward to Splunk; remediate Tenable/GPO findings.
• Contribute to application-level HA architecture across sites; collaborate on load balancing and ISE requirements.
• Respond to ServiceNow incidents/requests; participate in on-call rotations; triage ScienceLogic alerts; document changes.
• Assist with vSphere upgrade/migration planning; evaluate VCF 9 feasibility.
• Assist with automation for routine workflows using PowerCLI/PowerShell (and/or Ansible/Python).
• Support customer events and provide technical partnership across NIH teams.
• Collaborate with Government personnel, vendors, and cross-functional technical teams to support enterprise hosting services.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
