Job summary

NPR seeks a Systems Engineer to manage enterprise virtualization across our Distribution IT Infrastructure, spanning servers, storage, and networking. You will deploy and support virtualization platforms and help build NPR's private cloud, from rack to hypervisor and host networking.

You will work with Infrastructure and Security teams to implement change management, capacity planning, and operational reliability for NPR and its nationwide member stations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience in servers and networking within a data center.
• 2+ years in planning, design, deployment, and management of enterprise virtualized cloud infrastructure.
• Hands‑on with rack‑level data center hardware and cabling.
• Experience with DNS administration, IPAM, and DHCP services.
• Experience with configuration management tools (Puppet or Ansible).
• Experience with mail transfer agents (Exim).
• Experience with Windows Server administration and core directory services.
• Experience with enterprise storage (NetApp or TrueNAS).
• Strong documentation and cross‑functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Build, rack, cable, configure new server/storage/network hardware for virtualized workloads.
• Deploy and maintain virtualized systems using enterprise tools to ensure reliability.
• Evaluate architecture and measure performance/availability in test environments.
• Implement change management and drive system enhancements.
• Support capacity planning and cloud/virtualization workflows for ROI and business value.
• Ensure security policy alignment for hosts, OS, and network configurations.
• Document workflows and create training materials for staff and users.
• Respond to incidents and participate in on‑call rotations with 24x7 support.
