Job summary

Selective Insurance Company of America seeks a Subrogation Trial Attorney for its Staff Counsel office in Hamilton, NJ. This hybrid role requires strong litigation skills to manage a caseload from investigation to resolution and to represent the company in subrogation matters.

You will draft pleadings, conduct legal research, and develop strategies while coordinating with clients and opposing counsel. Travel to depositions and court appearances is about 20% of time, and multi-state bar

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from ABA accredited law school required.
• Member in good standing of the New Jersey Bar required; PA licensure preferred.
• 7+ years legal experience required; 5+ years subrogation experience required.
• Strong written and oral communication, research, and analytical skills required.
• Proficiency with Litify, dictation software, and MS Word preferred.
• Must have a valid state-issued driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Represent the Company before the assigned court and present witnesses and evidence on subrogation litigation claims.
• Analyze legal and factual issues, conduct extensive legal research, and develop initial strategies.
• Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs in support of strategies.
• Prepare for, attend, and handle all activities related to trial and/or appeals.
• Provide timely legal advice and communicate with clients and subrogation teams.
• Assist in developing training materials for the subrogation department.
• Travel to depositions, court appearances, and client meetings; travel approx. 20%.
• Maintain regulatory compliance and stay current with market trends and continuing legal education.
