Job summary

Selective Insurance in Hamilton, NJ seeks a Subrogation Trial Attorney for our Staff Counsel office. This hybrid role includes 2 days in office and 3 days remote, handling subrogation litigation from investigation to resolution and coordinating with claims and clients.

You will represent the Company in court, conduct legal research, draft pleadings and briefs, and train junior staff. A Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited school and NJ Bar admission (PA a plus) are required, with 7+ years of

Qualifications

Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited law school.
Active New Jersey Bar, PA bar is a plus.
7+ years legal experience required.
5+ years subrogation experience required.
Trial experience preferred.
Knowledge of state laws, local court policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Represent the Company before the assigned Court and present witnesses and evidence on subrogation litigation claims.
Conduct extensive legal research and develop initial strategies for the Company.
Draft pleadings, discovery, motions and briefs in support of strategies.
Prepare for and handle all trial and appeal activities as assigned.
Provide timely legal communications and advice to clients and subrogation team within guidelines.
Assist in developing training materials for the subrogation department.
Communicate with Court, witnesses, opposing counsel and clients per office procedures.
Manage disposition of assigned cases efficiently and promptly.
Travel to depositions, court appearances, and client meetings (approx. 20% of time).
Stay current with market trends and continuing legal education.
