Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Structural Bridge Project Manager in Chicago to lead transportation bridge projects across railways and highways. You will guide design, mentoring staff and coordinating cross-disciplinary teams from concept to final design.

The role requires a civil/structural engineering degree, 8+ years in bridge design, and licensure in Illinois with a preference for an PE. Hybrid in-office collaboration is supported, with a strong performance bonus potential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
• 8+ years of relevant work experience in structural bridge design and inspection.
• Illinois SE license is required or ability to obtain licensure within 6 months.
• Illinois PE license is preferred.
• Experience with IDOT standards and procedures preferred.
• Knowledge of highway engineering policies, practices, standards, and regulations.
• Familiarity with construction specs/erection plans for large structures.
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiating, problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to participate in local professional societies.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop engineering plans and drawings, including preliminary layouts and final construction documents.
• Supervise or perform structural assessments: evaluation, load capacity, service life, rehabilitation and life-cycle costing.
• Plan and oversee production of drawings, specifications, investigations, and planning work.
• Lead junior professionals and staff in bridge design.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to align with scope, budget and schedule.
• Assist in development of scopes, cost, manpower estimates, schedules and budgets.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Apply quality management, QC/QA procedures and independent reviews at design phases.
