Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Chicago-based team on a contract, hybrid basis. You will prepare standard journal entries, perform monthly reconciliations, and assist with month-end and year-end close processes.

You will handle daily AP/AR, review invoices and expenses, and ensure proper approvals and documentation while reconciling vendor statements and managing cash activity across multiple accounts. Strong attention to detail and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
• 5+ years of general accounting experience required.
• Familiarity with standard accounting systems or digital tools.

Responsibilities

• Prepare standard journal entries and complete recurring monthly account reconciliations.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities.
• Calculate variable compensation payments and related accruals.
• Process daily transactions for accounts payable and receivable.
• Review invoices and employee expense reports for proper approvals and documentation.
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies with internal stakeholders and vendors.
• Execute scheduled payment runs and generate customer billing.
• Reconcile cash activity, receivables, and related sub-ledgers across multiple bank accounts.
• Investigate and resolve account variances with internal teams and external partners.
