Job summary

Actalent in Oak Creek, WI is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead the development of display-system software and guide a team through architecture, development, verification, and certification. Hybrid role with approximately 50% remote work, enabling close collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams.

You will oversee the full SDLC and ensure compliance with safety-critical and non-safety-critical requirements.

Qualifications

• This role requires 8+ years of engineering experience, preferably in safety-critical or aviation embedded systems.
• Minimum 3+ years in software leadership or management.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or CS from an accredited institution.
• Proficiency in C and C++ programming languages.
• Strong real-time embedded systems background.
• Experience with Agile methodologies.
• Experience with display-system embedded software.
• Eligibility to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and mentor a team of software engineers, providing technical guidance, performance feedback, and career development support.
• Oversee the full software development lifecycle for display systems, including architecture, design, implementation, integration, verification, and certification activities.
• Ensure compliance with applicable software standards and process objectives for safety-critical and non-safety-critical products.
• Develop and maintain detailed project plans in collaboration with project engineering managers, ensuring alignment of scope, schedule, and resources.
• Coordinate closely with systems engineering, hardware engineering, and process assurance teams to ensure integrated and compliant solutions.
• Support customer reviews, program milestones, and certification activities by preparing technical documentation and presenting status, risks, and mitigation plans.
• Take responsibility for on-time, on-budget, and correct completion of software work packages, including tracking progress and addressing issues proactively.
• Generate technical approaches and cost estimates for new proposals, contributing to bids and supporting business development efforts.
• Promote and support Agile software development practices within the team, encouraging continuous improvement and collaboration.
• Monitor and enforce adherence to engineering processes, configuration management, and quality standards throughout all software activities.
