Job summary

MongoDB, Inc. is seeking a Senior Engineer for the Replication Team to design and implement production features in core database code, primarily in C++, to protect data and keep applications available under demanding conditions.

The role involves working with distributed-systems concepts, improving recovery and replication performance, and mentoring engineers within a hybrid office environment near MongoDB offices.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of experience programming, debugging, and performance-tuning distributed or highly concurrent software systems.
• Strong systems fundamentals: multithreaded programming, concurrency, debugging, performance profiling.
• Experience with distributed-systems concepts: replication, data consistency and durability, recovery, fault tolerance, or consensus protocols.
• Experience with complex production codebases and diagnosing cross-boundary issues.
• Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement production features across the replicated data lifecycle.
• Improve restore and recovery workflows with focus on recovery time objectives.
• Improve replication lag, throughput, and flow control; measure performance and address regressions.
• Write production-quality C++ with unit, integration, and system tests.
• Use JavaScript and Python to extend test coverage and validate end-to-end behavior.
• Collaborate with partner teams and stakeholders on large, cross-functional initiatives.
• Investigate issues raised by customers and support; communicate findings and deliver fixes.
• Participate in code reviews and design discussions to improve quality.
• Interview candidates and mentor junior engineers and interns.
