Job summary

MongoDB, Inc. is seeking a senior engineer to strengthen the Workload Resilience team’s server infrastructure. You will ship low-level production code in C++/Rust, write tests across languages, and improve availability during overloads while mentoring junior engineers.

You’ll work in a hybrid model near one of MongoDB’s offices, collaborating across teams on large initiatives and helping drive operational excellence and observability of the core server.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of programming, debugging and performance tuning of distributed/highly concurrent low-level software systems.
• Experience in C++ and/or Rust is preferable.
• Strong operational excellence fundamentals to deliver reliable software.
• Strong systems fundamentals including multi-threaded programming and performance profiling.
• Excellent written and verbal technical communication; ability to mentor juniors.
• Experience with distributed system concepts: fault tolerance, consistency, availability.
• Experience writing software to observe and mitigate overload in high-performance concurrent systems.

Responsibilities

• Write production-ready database code in C++, Rust, or another low-level language.
• Write unit tests and integration tests in C++, Rust, Javascript, and Python.
• Investigate availability and performance characteristics of the server and write regression tests.
• Implement and improve server workload policies to rate limit and prioritize operations for availability.
• Improve workload observability/diagnostics of the core server.
• Diagnose test failures and fix bugs.
• Interview candidates for software engineering positions.
• Improve operational readiness including monitoring, incidence management and rollout processes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and engineering teams on large initiatives.
• Mentor new and junior engineers on the team.
• Lead projects with scope and technical design documents with estimates.
