Job summary

Republic Services in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Senior Manager of Payroll Operations to lead payroll compliance, control testing, and data management for union contracts, certified payroll reporting, SOX controls, and related reconciliations.

You will oversee configuration testing, 3rd party payments, and collaborate with HR and finance to drive strategic process improvements. A 7–10 year track record in large payroll operations and strong analytical skills are required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of US GAAP and SOX controls related to general ledger reconciliations and COA mappings.
• Experience interpreting CBAs and applying pension, health & welfare, and union deductions to payroll processes.
• FLSA compliance, regular rate of pay calculations, and state/local payroll laws.
• Experience supervising large payroll teams, setting goals, and ensuring succession planning.
• Proficiency with Workday/ADP payroll systems and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Oversee payroll compliance with US GAAP, SOX controls, 175+ CBAs, and company policies.
• Lead acquisitions and projects ensuring payroll regulatory compliance and testing of Workday configurations.
• Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and drive efficiency across teams.
• Collaborate with Director level and HR partners to align goals with corporate strategy.
• Manage payroll payments including wage, tax, union benefits, garnishments, and 3rd-party payments.
