Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Data Engineer in Austin to design, build, and operate data products transforming connected-vehicle signals into trusted insights and proactive customer experiences. You will work across real-time streaming, cloud data platforms, APIs, analytics, and AI to deliver secure, reliable data capabilities at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering or related field.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Java or Python, SQL, OOD, data structures, algorithms, and automated testing.
• Experience designing and operating production data pipelines using Flink, Spark, Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, or similar streaming tech.
• Experience with cloud‑native development on Azure and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, data modelling, and performance optimization.
• Experience designing APIs and event‑driven systems using GraphQL, REST, or gRPC.
• Experience applying ML/AI in data engineering contexts.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop production‑grade batch and real‑time data pipelines for connected‑vehicle telemetry and health signals.
• Build streaming apps to ingest, enrich, validate, deduplicate, and publish event‑driven data for downstream services.
• Create data products using Java, Python, SQL, and Spark/Flink.
• Work with Azure services like AKS, Event Hubs, Databricks, and related tools.
• Define data contracts, schemas, APIs, and event models (GraphQL/REST/gRPC).
• Apply AI/ML to data engineering problems such as anomaly detection and quality triage.
