Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics or related field.
• 1+ years of underwriting, credit risk, financial analysis, or related field.
• Understanding of GAAP/IFRS accounting standards and bank/financial statement analysis
• Familiarity with quantitative credit risk models, probability of default and loss given default concepts
• Proficiency with Google Sheets, Excel, and Hex (or similar BI tools) for data extraction and analysis
• Deep familiarity with underwriting/credit tooling used to investigate and resolve escalations
• Strong analytical rigor and attention to detail
• Customer centric and passionate about thinking through customer needs and balancing risk exposures
• Experience cross-functional with Sales, Customer Experience, Engineering, or Product, with strong communication skills
• Ability to communicate technical problems clearly

Responsibilities

• Assess the credit quality in terms of our business card customers' ability to repay
• Review bank statements and financial statements to underwrite Brex customers
• Handle intermediate-level underwriting escalations requiring deeper investigation into applicant financials
• Review existing underwriting processes and identify improvements that align with company goals
• Track and communicate underwriting metrics to stakeholders
• Build and maintain relationships across Risk, Sales, Engineering, and Product to drive initiatives
• Serve as subject matter expert within underwriting and mentor teammates
• Aid in documentation and ongoing learning for the team and company
