General Motors seeks a Robotic Process Simulation Engineer to apply deep technical expertise in manufacturing automation, robotics, and simulation to solve complex production challenges and shape how GM designs, automates, and validates assembly lines.

From concept through Start of Production, you will connect virtual models to real-world requirements, lead simulation activities, and influence tool design, layout, and processes while partnering with engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Industrial, Manufacturing, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience in automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier environments or software/automation with manufacturing simulation exposure.
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering, process design, and process simulation, preferably with Siemens Tecnomatix.
  • Experience applying simulation or digital tools in real manufacturing settings influencing tooling/design decisions.
  • Thorough knowledge of PLC hardware, software design, and engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to read electrical/mechanical drawings and equipment layouts.
  • Working knowledge of robot programming and troubleshooting, preferably FANUC.
  • Knowledge of plant-floor automation systems interfacing with manufacturing operations.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the robotic process simulation scope for assigned programs or systems from concept through Start of Production.
  • Define, document, and validate simulation requirements; evaluate tooling, robot reach, line layouts, cycle time, and throughput.
  • Translate simulation findings into technical requirements and actionable inputs for engineering teams, sites, and suppliers.
  • Deploy and improve GM Global Standards across projects and regions.
  • Lead technical reviews with cross-functional and supplier teams; escalate issues with data-driven trade-offs.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Controls, IT, Plant Operations, Safety and others.
  • Support site execution by connecting virtual models to physical implementation and troubleshooting discrepancies.
  • Apply simulation tools to identify bottlenecks, quantify benefits, and inform automation investments.
  • Capture and share lessons learned to strengthen future automation strategies and the Digital Twin roadmap.
  • Contribute to solving complex manufacturing problems and enabling scalable GM solutions.
  • Travel to sites as required, approximately 10%.
