Job summary

Akron Children’s Hospital is seeking a Risk Management Specialist to support the health system’s risk management efforts by identifying, investigating, evaluating, and mitigating clinical and operational risks that may impact patients, visitors, staff, and the organization.

The role involves analyzing risks from safety events and complaints, preparing investigation summaries, and developing mitigation strategies in collaboration with leadership and the Quality Department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science in nursing or healthcare field, or bachelor’s degree preferred; associate degree or diploma in nursing also preferred.
• RN licensure preferred.
• CPHRM certification or eligibility preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree and min 3 years risk management; 5 years preferred.
• Or BSN or healthcare field with min 3 years clinical work; 5 years preferred.
• Associate degree in nursing or diploma with min 10 years clinical leadership/quality experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify, track, and analyze clinical risks and liability exposure across the health system.
• Prepare investigation summaries and claim evaluation reports.
• Develop and monitor risk management strategies to improve safety and reduce liability.
• Assist leadership with proactive risk assessments and risk strategies.
• Participate in investigations with Quality Department and clinical leadership.
• Promote a culture of safety through collaboration and staff support.
• Deliver risk management education and disclosure documentation.
• Prepare dashboards, reports, and presentations for leadership.
• Assist with professional and general liability claims with carriers and maintain claim files.
• Participate in committees and process improvement initiatives.
