Job summary

Contra Costa County seeks a Risk Manager to oversee the Workers’ Compensation Program, supervise staff, and coordinate with the County Director of Risk Management on claims and operations.

The role requires a California Self-Insurance Administrator’s Certificate, a Bachelor's degree in a related field, and at least four years of professional experience with workers’ compensation, including supervisory responsibility.

Qualifications

• Possession of a California Self-Insurance Administrator’s Certificate.
• Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, finance, or closely related field.
• Four years of professional level experience with workers’ compensation claims management, with at least two in a supervisory capacity.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing the self-insured and self-administered Workers’ Compensation Program for the County and districts.
• Supervising and directing Workers’ Compensation staff in investigation and adjustment of claims.
• Overseeing the administration of the County’s Occupational Return to Work Program.
• Interpreting California Code and laws related to Workers’ Compensation and ensuring compliance.
• Serving as main contact with county departments, districts, agencies, and auditors.
• Developing and updating procedures for claims adjustment and workflows.
• Maintaining statistics on reserves, costs, and claims trends.
