Job summary

ABB is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the development of critical power equipment in Richmond, VA. You will design, test, and document mechanical systems, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure quality and cost targets are met.

The role supports prototyping, design reviews, and manufacturing coordination in a hybrid work model. A background in engineering and CAD tools is essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
• 2+ years in mechanical engineering or product design.
• Experience with Solidworks and PLM software is preferred.
• Knowledge of electrical safety standards (UL/IEC) is a plus.
• Sheet metal design and design for manufacturing experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to mechanical design deliverables for new or enhanced critical power equipment.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to meet project requirements and timelines.
• Participate in design reviews and verification, providing feedback and modifications.
• Design and release mechanical prototypes and support fabrication.
• Lead cost reduction opportunities and coordinate with manufacturing.
