Job summary

Ryan Specialty in Chicago is seeking an early-career insurance professional to join our Property Underwriting team. This position is ideal for an Underwriting Assistant or recent graduate looking to build a career in commercial property underwriting, with 1–2 years of experience preferred.

You will work with experienced underwriters to evaluate submissions, assist with risk selection, pricing, endorsements, renewals, and policy issuance, while developing underwriting knowledge and representing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management & Insurance or related discipline preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Open to multiple early-career stages (Underwriting Assistant, recent grads, or Underwriter Trainee I).
• Prior exposure to commercial property insurance or P&C environment is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Support evaluation of new and renewal property submissions, ensuring information is complete and accurate.
• Review submission and exposure data to identify key risk characteristics; prepare accounts for underwriting review.
• Assist underwriters with risk selection, pricing, quotes, binding, endorsements, renewals, and policy issuance.
• Gather and organize information from brokers and partners to evaluate and process submissions.
• Develop understanding of Velocity’s property underwriting appetite, guidelines, and pricing considerations.
• Assist with premium calculations and application of rates per guidelines and authority.
• Maintain accurate underwriting files and system information throughout an account's lifecycle.
• Communicate with brokers and partners regarding submissions, information gaps, and documentation.
• Build relationships with brokers and internal partners through responsive service.
• Monitor underwriting activity and assist with reporting and portfolio information.
