Job summary

The New York Times is seeking a Program Manager to lead cross-functional projects within Enterprise Technology, supporting HR, Finance, newsroom and beyond. You will partner with technology, cybersecurity, and business leaders to enable our mission of independent journalism.

This hybrid role is based in New York City, with three days in the office per week. You will drive project initiation, planning, execution and closure while communicating with leadership at appropriate detail.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience managing technical projects including multiple simultaneous projects of different sizes and impacts.
• Experience with Agile and waterfall development practices and Jira.
• Comfortable leading large meetings and translating technical concepts for non-technical partners.

Responsibilities

• Program Leadership: manage a complex mix of projects from initiation to closedown; prioritize competing interests.
• Communication: run meetings, outline takeaways, and prepare leadership summaries with appropriate depth.
• Contribute to deliverables: draft docs, run initial testing, gather user feedback during launches.
• Collaboration: build relationships across departments and advocate for stakeholder needs.
• Escalation: identify risks, inform stakeholders, and track mitigation until resolution.
• Continuous Improvement: propose improvements and lead retrospectives to close gaps.
• Analytics: create project metrics and derive milestones from work breakdown structures.
• Support journalistic independence and our mission to seek the truth.
