Automatic Data Processing, Inc. is seeking a proactive Technical Product Owner/Project Manager in Reston, VA for a hybrid role balancing ownership, project management, and business analysis.

The role connects business stakeholders, clients, developers, QA, IT, and operations to deliver initiatives from discovery through delivery. The ideal candidate will align priorities, manage risks, and ensure clear requirements and development-ready work.

Qualifications

• Experience in product ownership, project management, or a combination.
• Experience gathering and documenting business and functional requirements.
• Strong project-management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
• Experience working with developers, QA, business stakeholders, and operational teams.
• Experience creating user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to identify requirement gaps, dependencies, risks, and unresolved issues.
• Experience with Jira or a similar work-management platform.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Product Owner for assigned products, applications, enhancements, and initiatives.
• Gather, analyze, and document business and functional requirements.
• Translate business needs into clear, actionable Jira epics, stories, and tasks.
• Develop user stories, acceptance criteria, business rules, process flows, and supporting documentation.
• Maintain and prioritize the product backlog based on business needs, client commitments, dependencies, and technical priorities.
• Ensure requirements are complete and development-ready before work begins.
• Manage projects from planning through implementation, including milestones, deliverables, owners, dependencies, and target dates.
• Proactively identify and elevate risks, blockers, resource constraints, and schedule impacts.
• Partner closely with developers and QA to clarify requirements and resolve questions throughout development and testing.
• Coordinate with internal teams, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders.
• Lead project and requirements meetings and ensure decisions and action items are documented and followed through completion.
• Maintain accurate project status, requirements, and supporting information in Jira and other project-management tools.
• Communicate project status, priorities, risks, and changes clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
