Job summary

Daikin Applied is seeking a Principal Designer to design parts, create production drawings, and manage BOMs for large-scale HVAC projects. You’ll standardize design processes and lead product documentation from concept through manufacturing, ensuring quality, manufacturability, and cost targets.

The role spans Staunton, VA and Plymouth, MN with a hybrid schedule. You will mentor designers, collaborate with Marketing/Sales, and drive continuous improvement across the product line.

Qualifications

• Vocational or Technical Degree in Design/Drafting or Equivalent Experience.
• Associates Degree + 15 years of related design experience or BS in Engineering + 12 years design experience.
• Understanding of AMSE Y14.5 Design and drafting standards Advance Understanding.
• Strong Communication skills - Written and verbal.
• Experience with Excel - moderate to high level (preferred).
• Solidworks Mechanical Basic Understanding.
• Draft Sight Basic Understanding.
• Flexible to travel 10 to 15%.
• Solidworks electrical (Optional Skill).
• Adaptability - Adapts to changes in the work environment.

Responsibilities

• Create engineering documentation, including Solidworks modeling and purchase drawings.
• Translate engineering/marketing intent into manufacturing documentation.
• Be part of and train Designers; lead teams across product lines.
• Develop BOM selection logic to drive auto-generated Item and BOM creation.
• Collaborate with Engineering and MFG to transfer product knowledge to operations.
