Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering seeks a Pre-Award Research Administrator to support development and submission of externally sponsored proposals. You’ll ensure compliance with sponsor, institutional, and federal rules while coordinating with PIs, sponsors, and the Office of Research.

The role emphasizes independent and collaborative work, with a hybrid schedule and a focus on timely grant submissions for external funding.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience with sponsored project proposal submissions.
• Experience drafting budgets and revisions with PIs.
• Familiarity with sponsor rules and federal regulations.
• Ability to write clear budget justifications and forms.
• Ability to apply policies to sponsored projects and use Uniform Guidance.
• Strong Excel skills and comfort with online systems.
• Excellent oral and written communication for sponsors and staff.
• Ability to research, analyze, and evaluate sponsor budget data.

Responsibilities

• Prepare budgets for federal, non-profit, and industry proposals.
• Review and apply sponsor and university guidelines for proposals.
• Communicate policies to faculty, staff, and collaborators.
• Advise faculty on approaches for successful submissions.
• Maintain excellent organization and interpersonal skills.
• Request and review subaward materials.
• Prepare proposal budgets and forms per guidelines.
• Inform proposal personnel on internal/external submission issues.
• Assist with Current and Pending/Other Support documents and Biographical Sketches.
• Be precise, thorough, reliable, and able to adapt to changes.
